I first worked with Ryan Baldi on an informal basis a few years ago, during the writing of his book The Dream Academy. I provided some feedback on his manuscript and it became immediately obvious that Ryan was a serious talent - a writer who worked hard, fast and very effectively.
A few years later, he published two books in the same month of October 2023: Arsene Who? The Story of the Wenger Revolution and They Always Score: The Unforgettable, Improbable, Iconic Story of Manchester United’s Treble Winners.
Such an output could have come at the expense of quality. Not with Ryan. Both books are excellent. I wanted to find out how he did it. So, I asked him.
Our conversation covers some of the below topics….
Time management: how Ryan managed to bring up a young family, write two books at once and still catch Boston Celtics games late at night
Structure: whiteboards, flashcards, folders - how Ryan plotted out his own book-writing ‘double’
Interviewing: how Ryan lands big interviews; and, when he does, how he manages to get the best material
