📨 You've Got Mail: The email that changed EVERYTHING
Georgia Hunter Bell's athletics career took off when a race organiser in Germany hit 'reply'
Late last year we were in London meeting Forte Talent Group, a brilliant agency who represent track-and-field athletes such as Keely Hodgkinson, Josh Kerr and Georgia Hunter Bell. As we were about to leave the Forte guys (I think we were actually on the stairs!), Neil brought up Hunter Bell.
He had read a story about her incredible three-year journey from local parkrun to winning an Olympic bronze medal in Paris… but one detail jumped out. Georgia had been sending speculative emails to race meetings all around Europe trying to get races under her belt.
Then, one day in January 2024, a race organiser in Germany finally replied and offered her a slot. Neil’s idea was to tell the story of that email — the one that led her to a podium in Paris six months later. Dale — the director of Forte — loved the idea (we were still on the stairs at this point!), so we bookmarked it for discussion at a later date.
Recently, we started working with a brilliant sport injury charity called Podium Analytics. ‘Creating a world with more sport and less injury’ is the tagline. It was founded by Sir Ron Dennis and their CEO is Andy Hunt, who was chef de mission for Team GB at London 2012. They wanted to storytell around the subject of sports injuries — and asked us if we knew of any good injury stories.
That’s when we both looked at each other and said: ‘THE EMAIL!”
So, we arranged an interview with Georgia down in London.
The clip below is her talking about that email.
